The NS (Name Server) records of a domain name show which DNS servers are authoritative for its zone. Essentially, the zone is the selection of all records for the domain address, so when you open a URL in a browser, your personal computer asks the DNS servers world-wide where the domain is hosted and from which servers the DNS records for the domain should be retrieved. This way a browser finds out what the A or AAAA record of the domain name is so that the latter is mapped to an IP address and the web site content is required from the proper location, a mail relay server detects which server takes care of the e-mails for the domain address (MX record) to ensure a message can be forwarded to the needed mailbox, etc. Any change of these sub-records is conducted through the company whose name servers are employed, so that you can keep the website hosting and change only your email provider for instance. Every domain address has a minimum of 2 NS records - primary and secondary, that start with a prefix like NS or DNS.

We provide you with the opportunity to set up child name servers dns1.your-domain.com and dns2.your-domain.com for every single domain address registered within the account just as easily and all you need for that is a pair of IP addresses - either ours, if you will use the child NS to direct the domain address to the account on our cloud platform, or the ones of the third-party provider if you'll use the new records to direct the domain to their system. Different from other companies, we don't charge more for providing this additional DNS management service.
