When the Dot NET universal top-level extension was initially established in 1985, along with the first domains on the Internet, it was supposed to be used by Internet Service Providers or infrastructure entities. Taking into account that there were no particular conditions about the usage of the top-level extension, though, .NET domains were reserved and used for diverse purposes and by lots of people. This domain extension is an ideal substitute of .COM, notably if the desired domain with the latter TLD is not free for registration.
